Do you speak English? Or rather D'english?

As German speakers we often mean "English - easy peasy". The words are short, there are no genders and conjugation is rarely used. But when it comes to the nitty-gritty, i.e. the literal, even the world language has its pitfalls. Especially when you translate idioms and proverbs 1 to 1 and the result is something completely different from what you actually wanted to say.
